Can I put a rack for an S model on E bike?

Recommended Posts

I was offered this great Denali rack and Cortech bag set:

But it's been brought to my attention the connection points might be different for my bike. This was originally on an S model and I have a KLX400r...which I believe is more akin to the DRZ400E.

Does anyone know how different the subframe connection points are?

Do you think the rack could be modified easily?

The bags are a bit of a drive to get, so I would rather know how possible it is before I go all the way out there and I don't want to just take something I can't use.

Thanks in advance!

How easy is it to change the subframe? I found one on Ebay...

Simple really. Just gotta trim the rear fender a bit. you will see where and how it needs to be trimmed when you try to fit it on with the S subframe. Other than that nothing to it.

1. remove seat

2. take side panels off

3. unhook battery and remove

4. remove bettery box

5. remove rear fender and light

6. unbolt airbox

7. unbolt subframe from from frame top and bottom

8. remove e model subframe and send it to me (pm for address)

9. put s model sub frame on and bolt it up

10. reattach air box

11. reattach rear fender with light. trim where needed.

12. reattach rear light. trim where needed

13. reattach battery box

14. Install battery and hook it back up

15. reinstall side panels

16. put seat on it and tighten bolts

17. install bags and ride the thing around the world!

use a dremel or small saw to mod the rear fender. Its really simple

It's a super smoking deal (free). The guy just bought the DRZ400S and the bags were included in the sale but he doesn't need them. However, I just got an email from him saying he couldn't figure out how they would mount to his subframe either (they weren't attached to the bike, just came with it.) so I might have to do some welding and get creative to make it work even with the S frame.
