Really unhappy! Athena CRF488+Ported head+stage 2 Cam

Just finished the build on my 05 CRF450.

Athena 488 big bore

APE race ported head, stainless valves, titanium retainers

Hotcams stage 2 cam

Hot Rods crank

Tokyo Mods 10 way CDI

Pro Circuit TI4 system

Running at sea level up to 1500 feet motocross track riding only. Just finished the first run today. This thing should be running like a +@ped ape, It's running just barely faster than a stock 450. I know it is running rich 168 main, 42 pilot - completely stock carb...but seriously. Running rich couldn't possibly be making it THAT doggy can it? Heading to pick up some jets in the morning. Anybody have experience with this much modification and this little power increase? Where should I be on jetting?

you will need way more camshaft than a stg 2 hotcam to feed a 488.

get a stage 3 that is recommended for the big bores and strokers. you might be ALOT more happier

Stricktly motocross. I thank you for your input. I just ordered a similar grind as the stage 3 but - Webcams 408/342 vs. hotcams 409/358. Called hotcams and they didn't recommend the stage 3 unless stroked as well. What do ya think?

High compression right? I agree though, it would work well. Lesson for me. I did no more research than seeing what other people were doing I.E. Stage 2. Got in a hurry and just ordered parts.
