Dr. Mark - Broken Wrist Growth Plate 13yo - How much to Worry?

Recommended Posts

Hey Dr. Mark - My 13 yr old son apparently has a break at the growth plate in his Right wrist. Did it jumping (or more accurately - Falling) while riding his bicycle. Doctor said no need to any surgery and has it in a cast for 5 weeks and said there needs to be follow-up at 6 and 12 months to make sure no long term problems.

I've heard before that breaks involving the growth plates can lead to significant problems so wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks in advance.

I've done my growth plate twice, 12 and 13 years old if I remember correctly. Did the cast thing, healed up and starting riding again and have no problems at all! Although everyone is different as are all injury's, but my recovery was positive.
