XT350 gearing?

hey all.. i wanted a suggestion.. I have the stock gearing on it now and wanted to run one higher tooth.. when I ride on the highway at 70 in the HOV... the bike is at 6000rpm.. I was hoping to get it down a little.. just dont like the motor screaming that high.. highway moves at 70ish so just one tooth would do it.. add one on the front or back??

You'd either add teeth to the front or fewer teeth out back. You could probably drop 2-3 in the back or add one up front to get about the same effect. If you go any further than that, you may need a different length chain. You can adjust a couple of teeth out with the chain adjuster at the back wheel. Are you going to change back and forth often or just keep the higher gearing for commuting?

if you are running stock gears and chain, there is a 54 tooth rear sprocket availible. i am running it on mine and at 100kph it drops the rpms to 5500 compared to t 6000 rpm with the 55.

i am currently running a 55 rear and a 19 front.. I thought that was stock?

19 /55 will give you 80mph at the very best .

if you drop a tooth of the rear sprocket 54 , this will drop your revs at the top end.

You will probably only still get 80mph (in the real world) remember clocks are usualy 5 mph out , as read faster than the bike is actually travelling.

Bear in mind 80mph you are at the close end of the redline.

70mph is high cruising speed.

I have a 520 chain 16/44 . My bike is geared for 80mph.

I cruise at 55,60mph , as to not tax the motor too much.

It will pull up to 80mph , if needed , but not recommended to hold on too long.

you all have my attention but i can't locate any sizes other than stock. where should i look for different size sprockets?

i found mine in the aftermarket book. thumpertalk store should have a sprocket listing for you.

The JT Sprockets online catalog has an excellent chart with sprocket sizes, gear ratios, etc.
