Rear wheel bearing Lock Ring

Recommended Posts

Hi fellas!

Got a tough one here, I was replacing the rear wheel bearings on my '05 CRF and had a hard time removing the lock ring that holds the left side bearing in. I tried the motion pro tool but the ring seemed seized in there and would hardly budge. Racked my knuckles pretty good a few times.

I ground it out and lo and behold, the new one doesn't want to go in either. The threads seem fine, it will spin about halfway on but won't budge after that. I don't want to force it, but what else can I do? I tried freezing it, but that only helped a little. Any ideas?

Thanks a bunch!

Those locking rings are peened with a centerpunch from the factory. You have to drill out the punch mark then remove the locking ring. Did you do that first? It might just be a matter of chasing the threads on the hub. Good luck
