Odd Clip That Came With An Oring Chain

Recommended Posts

My friend brought his bike over for me to install a Renthal oring chain on his bike. I opened the package and it had the two different clip options that came with it. One was the clip type link, and the other was the one that would need to be braded or pined. What was odd was one of the link packages had a wire clip that was shaped kind of like an M in it. I have never seen it before and wasn't sure what to do with it. Any ideas what it was for?

Without seeing it, I would guess it is used to limit how far you press the plate onto the master link to prevent over/under pressing the plate onto the link. The RK chain press use to come with an M shaped plate for that purpose but I always use a set of calipers to match the width of the existing chain when pressing the master link.

Ok, that makes sense. The top parts of the M mathced up with the distance between 2 pins. I was just caught a little off guard because I had neer seen one before in the link package. Thanks for the info.
