Is this normal

Recommended Posts

I'm new to dirt bikes and just bought a 04 ktm 125sx. When I'm in neutral and shift down to first gear with the clutch in there is a noticeable clank noise. . . .Is this normal? When I'm riding I don't notice that noise when I'm shifting just when I first start the bike and began to ride switching from neutral to first. Does my clutch lever need to be adjusted?

I love it but I think the carb needs to be cleaned. Its not quite as snappy as it should be. Other then that, everything's awesome.

The clanking noise could be normal or it could be the Kanooter valve (KTM part# p-90210) which is the little valve that lets trans fluid seep through your gear set and keeps it lubed. If this valve is clogged it will let your trans slids grind metal to metal which will pre-wear your shifter linkage! Next time your in the KTM dealership just ask a service manager/mechanic if he thinks your valve is bad just for good measure and it could save you alot of money in the long run.
