Opinion needed... Is it worth buying another spare motor?

Recommended Posts

I am thinking about buying another motor for spare parts or just replacing parts as needed with new ones? I see alot of them selling on ebay, and if I could get one for around $600-700 it may be worth its weight. Just curious on your thoughts.

most engines on ebay that are selling for that price are in perfect running condition. if you want one for parts i wouldnt pay over $400. id get the jug replated to spec and just set it on a shelf until you need it.

just food for thought, but for the cost of a newish motor you could spend a little more and buy a whole bike(craigslist is your friend) then you ahve any spare part you could imagine. just an idea

It's not worth it to have a parts motor. There are very few things that really break in th engine, you may toss a gear in the transmission but that's about it. Anything else that happens is going to be because a part wore out. When dealing with worn out parts, it's best to replace them with new parts.
