08 rmz 450 forks

Recommended Posts

I live in New Zealand and ride a 08 Rmz450 the I do club MX on and alot of cross country and enduro stuff. I'm a B grade rider and am 100kg geared up. I have problems with the forks feeling harsh on the small stuff, eg braking bumps tree roots and rocks.

I've pulled my forks apart and this is what I have

Re counted and it seems to have 6 30s. If I remove one will it soften up the lower stroke?

I am not sure are there same settings in aus/nz bikes than in eu bikes but here are what is in eu fork

std

30-0.1 (6)

20-0.1

29-0.1 (4)

28-0.15

27-0.15

26-0.15 (2)

25-0.15 (2)

24-0.15 (2)

23-0.2

I suggest you to add couple of 30 face shims and cross over to 24. You can soften the high speed stack radically for example like this

29-0.1 (4)

28-0.15

27-0.15

26-0.15 (2)

25-0.15 (2)

24-0.15

22-0.15

20-0.15

18-0.15

as jusa showed, your fork has too little low speed already, you dont want to go softer on low speed, its allowing too much bleed and that makes it feel harsh.

That does make some sense now that I think about how it rides. What happened to th 30s in jusa stack. Should it be

30-.10 (8)

24-.10

then his stack

I rode in a six hour to weekends ago and it felt like the forks had been welded on the chopped out forest tracks.

Thanks for your help guys

8-10 face shims. I think 8 is a good starting point.

I have never tested maxima but I think it's ok.
