correct! 18+ to sign for a race. if not, legal parent / guardian must sign!

The first part is from the AMA Rulebook and the second is from District 15. (since your in Indiana I'm assuming you're D15) To clarify I would call some of the local promoters and ask them what the rules are for their event.

A. General

4. No rider under the legal age of majority in the state in

which the meet takes place may compete without the

written consent (signature on liability releases and entry

forms) of his/her parents or legal guardians present at the

meet. An authorized adult acting on behalf of the parents

or legal guardians must provide a notarized statement

indicating they have been given the authority by the parent

or legal guardian to be responsible for the minor during the

meet. All releases and notarized statements must be

forwarded to the AMA with the referee report and/or injury

report. The parents, legal guardians or authorized adult

must remain present while the AMA member he/she is

responsible for is at the meet.

District 15

16.3 --Membership Application: Competition membership in District 15 shall be open

to any individual AMA member upon application to the Secretary and the

payment of the annual dues of $15.00. An application for membership from

someone under the age of 18 must be accompanied by properly notarized written

permission, signed by the applicant’s parent or guardian. The written permission

is to be retained by District 15.

Get the AMA annual minor release and you can get away with just one parent there. I got my son's filled out and notarized, then made color copies that I submitted until the AMA card showed up.

Yeah you should be okay for the AMA sign up but at some of our local event their rules stated you had to be signed for by a parent until age 21 which was no fun being I've been maried since I was 18 and had to have a parent signature to race. So like said above check with organization putting on the event just to be sure.
