'79 YZ250 Exhaust Options

Recommended Posts

I would like to replace the exhaust system (pipe and silencer) on my 1979 YZ250 and it appears that I have two options, that being DG and Pro-form. Does anyone have experience as far as fit, finish, performance, durability, sound level (quieter being better), etc?

Lots of people have had fitment issues with DG and some say no real performance improvement. Vintage Iron sells them but I personally don't like dealing with them. I'm getting a proform pipe for my 465 next week.

I just put a new DG pipe on my 79 YZ250 and it fit great. Does not use the second rear mounting bracket, just the front by the tank. The only issue, if you want to call it one, the side plastic touches the pipe and will eventually melt away until clear. The pipe is just fatter than the stocker so it touches the side panel. As far as performance, the bike pulls awesome but I never rode it on a track with the stock pipe so I really cant compare the two.
