Spoke tghtening and grinding the tip

Recommended Posts

I just tightened a few loose spokes on my front 21" wheel, 2-3 complete turns on a coule of them, less on others.

The question is how many turns can I safely tighten them without having to dismount the tire and grind the tips down flush with the nipple?

There is no answer to that since you don't know where the spokes are now. I'd take a look.

When the spokes are put in and tightened they do not all end up in the same place in the spoke nipple. Some stick out right away and others only get halfway in. Thus you can not give an answer with out looking. Considering most if not all the rims have a rubber liner that protects the tube a turn or two should not kill it right away but a sharp spot will do you in, in the long run.

I may stand corrected.
