Recommended Posts

Who's going?????

It would be great if we could get a large turn out from our community.

You are invited to attend the USFS Pike National Forest, South Rampart TMP meeting: March 10, (this Wednesday) at 5:00pm-7:30pm with a presentation at 5:30pm.

Colorado Springs Utilities

Leon Young Service Center

Pikes Peak Room (2nd Floor)

1521 Hancock Expressway

Colorado Springs.

Call 719-636-1602 for additional questions.

This is a public meeting to review and comment on the Draft Alternatives for the South Rampart Travel Management Plan that are part of the travel management that is going on on the Pikes Peak Ranger District. The USFS will present their preferred alternative as well as two additional alternatives for your review and comment.

COHVCO alerted a number of scoping meetings starting last summer asking for input (see below for links to summary or more information).

Project Area Description:

The South Rampart Travel Management Plan project area consists of 121,168 acres of United States Forest Service (USFS) lands located approximately six miles northwest of the greater Colorado Springs metropolitan area in El Paso, Teller and Douglas counties. The project area comprises the northeastern portion of the Pikes Peak Ranger District on the Pike National Forest, including the Rainbow Falls Motorized Trail System and connections to the South Platte Ranger District.

For the folks that couldnt make it last night, we had a good turn out - I think quite a few more than they expected. Anyhow, they started a website to show whats on the table and they are wanting comments. If they hold up thier end of things as it is planned, there will be a good chunk of new singletrack, but we would lose a few roads in the management area. Check out the maps on the website for more details.

Looks like an improvement for us. Wasn't expecting that.

Yah, me too. I dont like the idea of closing Hotel Gulch, but all in all I think it is a positive plan. It would be great to have more singltrack in the area besides Jacks. Now the question will be if it will actually happen or not. Im cautiously optimistic.
