XR200R Engine Noise

Recommended Posts

I have an '84 XR200R which I had a top end rebuild done by a local shop in the winter of 2008. (My mistake)! The bike has not been ridden much since the rebuild, maybe 10 hours or less. Since the rebuild there has been a lot of top end noise. The valves were improperly adjusted by the shop and I corrected that problem. There is still a lot of noise in the engine. It is getting oil and there doesn't appear to be any valve adjustment problems.

The work done was as follows:

Bored out 1 level.

New piston, rings and pin

New intake and exhaust valves

New valve seals

Any thoughts...........

Pull some valve caps and make sure oil is getting to the top end. Enough hours that the timing chain should be adjusted. Change the oil at shorter intervals than the manual suggests, I do mine before ten hours.

I had an 84 XR250, same basic engine, and stock they were jetted lean so bump up the jetting because some of the noise may be detonation (not good).
