Countershaft spacer for 09 or not?

Recommended Posts

Installed a DID o-ring chain on my 09 tonight, spun the wheel then removed the front sprocket, it was touching at about 10oclock so I put the fastway spacer on with a .035 washer on the outside of the sprocket so the flex washer doesn't crack.

Later I looked at the fastway package and it says 02-07 on one label and 02-08 on another label.

I then checked fastway's site and it says 02-07 only, does that mean you don't need it for the later bikes? or is it that they havn't updated the site? does the 09 have a different shaft size?

Too many questions?

I have heard both sides...some say you don't need it (my local dealer), and others on past forums say that you will wear the case and cause major problems. I ran an X-ring chain on my '06 without the spacer and suffered minor scoring on the case but nothing major.

I now have an 09 and would like a firm answer as well.

As long as you have the cracking flex washer covered you are ok.
