AIS Removal - Real Performance Gain?

Recommended Posts

I've searched all the threads on what's involved with the mod, and I can see there is some advantage to not having all that clap-trap on the bike, but can anyone report that there is actually a performance gain without the AIS?

One of the posters on one of the AIS threads said you get nothing for it, just clean up the motor. Somebody else said gave some trouble with low speed jetting.

So, what is the straight skinny?

I haven't seen any absolute dyno results showig that there is any advantage to removing th AIS. I don't believe I could tell any difference by the "seat-of-my-pants" comparison. However, the AIS system and plumbing from my 2006 WR250F weighed a whopping 14 1/2 ounces, nearly a pound!!! Also, it made it inconvenient to remove the cover on the right side of the carb to tune the AP screw. I had no problems jetting the bike with it removed. Mine's in a box.
