'83 xt250 drive shaft oil seal rplcmnt

Recommended Posts

well i wanna change the oil seal behind the front sprocket on the drive/output shaft, I just want to know does it pop out with a screwdriver or does the engine need to be removed and cases split? There was no answer in the Clymer manual.

I'm pretty sure that seal is pretty easy to change. Have you taken the sprocket off to see what it looks like behind it?

yeah, i got the engine out for other maintenance and i can see the seal. Ive changed that seal on an xt200 before (which is essentially the same engine) and i just had to get a screw driver in there and pop it out. I was just wondering if it was a bit different on this model. Maybe a lip holding the seal in.

I have'nt taken my sprocket off on my bike yet and you're correct about the clymer manual, I could not find that seal in there as well. I think you would be able to see if there was something holding that seal in. If I'm not mistaken they usually make that seal pretty easy to get to and replace.
