Jumping technique

I want to learn to jump big, I have been analyzing some supercross footage and see that sometimes a rider will take his foot off the peg in flight and move it back towards the rear tire. What does this do? does it help turn the bike in the air? Anyone have any tips for me?

I dont think there is a purpose for it, i think some riders do it as a reflex and feel natural doing it

simple: start small and work your way up. only way to do it IMO.

you def dont want your first jump to be a 110 foot gap. start with a 20 footer, then 30, then 40, then 50 ,etc...
