CRF 70 smoking

Recommended Posts

I have a 2004 CRF 70 that has been running absolutely fine until my son laid it down on the track. I did not see the crash, but the bike may have turned over. Regardless, since then, the bike starts smoking (white) really bad.

I cleaned the air filter and it was not oily. I changed the oil and took off the inspection port on the lower front of the head and there was oil in there (dirty). I cleaned up the top end as well as I could, put it back together and replenished the oil (.6 quarts so it is not overfilled when checking).

I ran it and it still smokes, so I took off the inspection port again and there was fresh oil in the head.

So, can anyone think of any other reason this bike is smoking other than needing new rings?

White smoke is from oil working its way thru the piston rings or valve seals. More than likely it has worked its way around the piston rings. re-ring is in order.
