Making my bike bare minimum street legal on the cheap.

Recommended Posts

Ok I have a 95 KX250 I want to make street legal as I have a lot of trails that start 2 miles from my house. I need a headlight, tail light, and brake light. I want to operate the brake light off a small battery pack (say some recharagable double a's) and I won't be riding at night so the headlight doesn't have to work at all its just there so the cops go "oh he has a headlight". Any body have any thoughts or a place with a cheap good looking brake light and headlight? Here in az I just have to sign an affidavit saying the bike is street legal so the dmv won't even ever see the bike.

Search Ebay for "LED ("tail light",taillight,"turn signal*")". Remove outer quote only to put in Ebay search.

You also need an LED flasher.

Flasher for what? There won't be any turn signals unless you mean diodes to make the resistance/voltage right for the leds

Every state is different mate. here in missouri, you don't need blinkers.

Maybe everyone should read the sticky thread in the DUAL SPORT/ADVENTURE section regarding different states requirements for MC equipment.

I'm not trying to figure out what I need to make it street legal I'm looking for cheap headlight assemblys and a tail light I can run off a small battery when I'm on road only.

How about the stuff in the bicycle aisle at WalMart? Can't get much cheaper than that unless you're out looking at Garage Sales on a Saturday morning.

I'd say the cheapest head light and taillight assemblies are found on eBay.

what are you doing for wiring and the switches to operate the brakes?

Figured I would hide the switch on the frame somewhere like I used to do when I put a bike kill switches on my dirtbike to prevent theft. As for the brake light switch I plan to just mount one on the rear brake only. Battery pack well I have a few aa battery packs that output 12 volts from my rc days. Figured I would use that.

Looking to buy a used Beta 2017 500 RRS from outside California.  Can I plate (Register with CA DMV) the bike in CA?  If so what is the best way?  Don't have the money to put down for a new bike from a Dealer in CA.  Any help or sugguestions would be appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

This continues to be my favorite trail/race weapon!! In our Eastern tight woods, power is not King, handling is. And this thing outhandles them all!!!!
