2004 Tranny Oil

Recommended Posts

I am getting ready to change the tranny fluid in my bike and I was looking at my manual and it says run HP Trans Oil, Pro Honda GN4, HP4. It also says at the bottom viscosity SAE 10W-40. I have a bottle of the HP Tans Oil but it is SAE 80W/85W will I be ok running this or do I need to run 10W-40? I know this is a dumb question but I always get confused when it come to oils.

I run 20w-40 in both sides no problem. I use 20w-50 in the summer months. Bike just likes clean oil.

Either HP Trans Oil or a 10w40 automotive motor oil will work fine. The only thing to avoid in your tranny is 10w30 auto motor oils because they have friction modifiers that will make your clutch slip. All the 10w40, and heavier, motor oils do not contain friction modifiers and are safe for your clutch.
