08 yz250f Runs but don't move...help

My 15 yr old son was racing his 250f yesterday..it has only 20 hours of light use..We were racing a harescramble yesterday in super deep mud and water..THe bike runs fine but when you shift it you hear it click in gear but the bike dont move. The front sprocket does not spin. Could this be a clutch problem? I hope it's not something broke in the trans.

As long as you can shift the bike into gear I wouldn't think it is the cause of the problem.

Sounds like he burned up the clutch plates. The fiber plates get a glaze on them and they will no longer grab the steel plates. This could happen by slipping the clutch or by improperly adjusted clutch cable. Make sure there is free play in the cable.

It's almost certainly a clutch problem. It could be something internal but pretty unlikely. You must have seriously fried the clutch.
