KYB shock oil weight?

Recommended Posts

I have a KYB shock off of an 09 yz250. I just put a new oil seal, dust seal and guide bushing in it. My question is if I can use 5 weight oil in the rear and adjust compression and rebound accordingly? stock is 2.5 weight. I'm 6'4" 240lbs and ride A class in the woods. I was hoping 5wt. is ok becaue the shops around me carry it.

5wt fork oil. I don't know the difference between shock and fork oil besides the weight

I don't think you will like the 5w. Order in some lighter oil and you should have better results.

Have you had the shock revavled? The yz seems light on rebound, I had DaveJ hook me up with a new stack, and he added a bunch of rebound to my '06. It has really helped balance the bike. In the rough whooped out desert style terrain we race out west it has been great.

BTW, I have Daves 3w oil in my shock.
