main bearing replacement

Recommended Posts

I am in the process of replacing the crank in my 06 YZ250F, but I am having a tough time trying to seat the new main bearings. I watched a video on YouTube from Rockymountain ATV/MC which showed to heat the case with a torch, and use dry ice to cool the bearing. Is the dry ice neccesary, or can I just put the bearing in the freezer? I tried cooling the bearing in the little freezer of my beer fridge in the garage, but I don't think it is cold enough. Anyone have any tricks to share?

Thanks

Duncan

Thanks for the replies, I ended up using dry ice, and heated the case with a propane torch, worked great. Bottom end is all wrapped up, getting the tranny back in was a lot of fun. Should have the top end back on it today, hopefully running tomorrow.
