chriskelsey Posted March 19, 2010 Hello All, Time for a new piston kit. Do ya go OEM or Wiseco or ?????? I have a 2002 EXC 300. Thanks CW
rpt50 Posted March 19, 2010 The KTM guys all seem to go OEM, but no one ever seems to give a good explanation of why OEM is better. I'm going to have to do my first top end on a KTM soon, and I have never used anything other than Wiseco in all kinds of Japanese bikes (street, dirt, big, small). I've never had a piston failure of any type (even with the extreme abuse my mini racer son dishes out). I'm probably going to go with a Wiseco for my KTM, as I like the idea of a forged piston for durability.
ktmfred300 Posted March 19, 2010 Wisco pistons are forged where as stock or Vertex and Athena are a cast piston which do not expand as much so have a tighter fit with less rattle. I tried a Wiseco in my 2000 300 rode it one ride took it out because it rattled way too much sounded louder that my worn out stock piston. You can do what you want but that was my experience. fender bender 59 Posted March 19, 2010 I use the wossner pistons from Munn racing. Never have had any problems what so ever. They are also cast and cheeper than oem. The oem piston are built by Vertex and are great parts...
Mike in Fresno Posted March 20, 2010 I have used Vertex and Wossner, I usually buy stock cuz they last so long the first time around so I figure no need to change it up.
Little Jeff Posted March 20, 2010 +1 for Munn Racing, I usually get most of my top end parts there. Little Jeff
