Sharp pain when running

Recommended Posts

When I am running for a long period of time I sometimes get a sharp pain under my right rib cage. I'm not sure what it is, but something tells me its either from not breathing properly or I'm pushing myself too hard. Any educated guesses?

What you probably have is what is called a "runners stitch". I used to get these all the time when I ran cross country. Probably 5 or so minutes after starting my run I would get a sharp pain beneath my upper right abdominals. What I found to work was not drinking too much water or eating to soon before running, strengthing my stomach muscles, or timing my breathing so that I would exhale whenever the foot opposite of the pain hits the ground. Just google "runners stitch", im pretty sure thats what it is. Hope this helps.
