TPS Sensor removal

The owners manual for my yz250f says that removing the tps sensor could affect performance. Is this for real, or bs? I got my carb very muddy and it needs to be cleaned with soap and water in a bucket, of course i cannot do this with sensor attached. Anyone know? thanks.

soap and water wont hurt the sensor.
