2005 left side seals

Recommended Posts

Just did some searching and found I can apparently replace the counter shaft seal/o-rings without breaking the cases apart. Is the same true with the shift lever seal? My 2005 decided to start leaking from both holes recently...and I just noticed it.

I may have accidentally overfilled it with oil a bit, could that damage those seals or anything else? Im guessing the seals are just flat worn out at this point.

No need to split the case halves. You will have to remove the right side case cover after removing the clutch cover though and after the clutch is out of the way you'll have access to the gear shifting mechanism. You can then take that apart and pull out the shift lever rod out to replace the seal...

Or you can lay the bike on the right side, pull the shift lever off and use a pick to pull the old seal out. When you put the new one it I would recommend using a little grease on both the outer and inner lips of the seal.
