lower fork seal questions

Recommended Posts

hello everyone, long, long time lurker, first time poster lol

I have a 05 rmz 450 and one of my lower fork seals is starting to leak.

I went to a local shop and they said it would be about 250.00 but that included fresh oil and mild inspection.

i dont have 250.00 right now so heres my question: how hard is it to swap out the fork seals on this bike? are there any special tools required? anything I should look out for if i do this myself?

If this is a pretty technical job ill probably just save up and take the forks in, do you guys think 250.00 is reasonable?

Check other posts...I had the same problem. Basically you clean or take dust seal down, then take an old credit card, form it around the tube and under inner seal-all the way around cleaning if needed. The card normally cleans the debris from seal and stops the leak. This method worked great for me and others!
