XR600R magnesium covers - dates?

Recommended Posts

I scored some clutch and stator covers off an old wreck (date?) with "magnesium" embossed written.

I kind of fancy sticking them on my '94 XR600R.

- compatible?

- strong (like not frightened of stones!)?

Cheers!

Honda has used mag covers for years. They may have a difference in the kick start shaft hole. I thought I read something about early cases not being bushed or something like that. The gaskets are the same. They should fit.

'83-84 XR500s, '83-87 XL600s, and '85-90 XR600s have magnesium side covers. '83-87 side covers have an arm over the kickstart hole that is part of the automatic compression release those engines have. I'm pretty sure that those covers will fit on any RFVC 500/600/650 without issue. '88-90 covers are just like '91-00, but cast in magnesium.

Be aware that the magnesium covers will corrode much more readily than aluminum..
