Parting out my knackered engine - how far should I go

Recommended Posts

Guys,

I'm breaking my knackered 'E' engine, after primary nut failure.

What bits are there a market for second hand?

So far I've got the following:

Valve cover

Side casings

Waterpump (only 300 miles on it)

Waterpump housing

clutch cover

stator

flywheel

starter torque limiter

Cover for above^^

Is this about the lot?

Is it worth delving into the gearbox?

Obviously I don't want to waste my time if things won't sell.

I'll take the rest to the scrapyard.

Cheers,

Con

Yeah would no way be economical to ship anything that far!

Visually the cams look mint, is there any way of telling if they were damaged when the engine failed? I'm going to pull the head soon and see what state its in, perhaps I can work out from that whether it's safe to put the cams in my S lump

Normally if the cams look good they are. If there is visual scaring on the lobes or journals you are good to sell them. Are they stock cams?

Hi aspen, the pump is on eBay at the moment, and I've no idea what shipping to the US would cost.

In all honesty, I would've thought it'd be cheaper for you to buy an OEM one brand new from a dealer in the states than it would to buy it 2nd hand at UK prices, plus postage...

We get charged a lot more than you guys for parts, and I need to claw as much money back as I can considering the £1000 I spent this month swapping engines and putting S/M wheels and big brakes on my bike!

Cheers,

Con
