98 XT225 bad bog

Recommended Posts

I have a 98 xt225 that idles and starts like a dream, the air box and cylinder are mechanically sound, when I rev up the motor and hit about half throttle it wants to die from the horrible bog. acts like it is suckn way to much air somewhere but Ive checked all the jets thinking it was lacking fuel, could the slide/needle, float, or choke be causing the problem? Im out of ideas, had the carb apart way to many times to mess with it anymore, Thanks in advance

Check: air leaks at intake manifold, gas cap not properly venting (check by removing cap and see if there is a sucking sound), blocked fuel filters in petcock and float level in carb too low. Any of these things would cause fuel starvation at open throttle.

I suspect the CV boot ... the rubber diaphram under the cap on the top of the carb has a hole or tear in it ... with out it working properly ... it won't lift the needle to provide more fuel when you open the throttle ... check it out ...
