rp2000r Posted March 26, 2010 Hey guys, I just sold my 08125SX and will be buying a 200 soon. Iam having a tuff choice between a 09/10 200XC or XCW. Iam a decent rider and ride mostly trails with some occasional dune/track trips here and there... I can't find any clean used 09 or newer 200's so Iam hoping to pull the trigger on my first new bike and want to make sure if Iam spending 6K I'll be happy. I can't test ride any bikes in a real world senerio, only parking lots. Here is what I want to know, Which would you buy? and what prices you guys paid for the same bikes. I found a 09XC for $6500 or a 09XCW for $6300 OTD but was thinking if Iam spending that much I mine as well just get a 2010 bike for the small price difference and get the updates for the 2010 model year What ya think? Thanks, Ryan:ride:
Lelandjt Posted March 26, 2010 I went with the W for the wider gearing. I like to be able to cruise at low RPM on dirt road transit sections. On the moto track I notice the softer springs but just crank up my damping to firm things up. I was tempted by the lighter weight of the 200 but once I learned I could cut 8.5lbs by ditching e-start I went for the extra low end grunt of the 300. BTW for 2010 the 200 only comes as an XC-W, no XC.
rp2000r Posted March 26, 2010 Cool, Is it correct that the 09XC has the same 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears as the 2009/2010 200XCW? And does the XCW come with a speedo/hour meter by the handlebars? or do both bikes come like that? Thanks guys!
swedishfishmx Posted March 26, 2010 The xc-w comes with the speedo and all that, but the xc doesn't as far as I know. I went with the xc-w and you should be able to find 09's for less than 6g's. I got mine for 5500 about 8 months ago.
rdefonce Posted March 26, 2010 Cool, Is it correct that the 09XC has the same 2nd, 3rd, and 4th gears as the 2009/2010 200XCW? QUOTE] I believe that's the way it's been for a long time . . . at least that is how my '06 200 XC-W vs. '06 200 XC is.
CJONE Posted March 26, 2010 If you get the 10 there is no xc. Shop a little more my 10 was 6200 otd. I like the W, can work on the forks myself and like the tranny in the 6 speed. CJ
rp2000r Posted March 27, 2010 Thanks for the info guys, I can't find a 09 200XCW for cheaper then $6450 out the door and on there last 09XC he won't go under 7K tax rate is 8.9% or so and a $50 Lic fee.. Seems like to much for me, I offered $6200 for the XCW and 6400XC and he said no.. I think either bike will be fine I'll just get whatever I can get cheaper I guess.. The hunt continues, lol
ktm300 My Ride Posted March 28, 2010 The dealer over hear has 09's listed at 5750.00 1st, 5th and 6th are differant, first is slightly taller 5th and 6th shorter on the XC, the 200 has no problem pulling the taller 5th and 6th on the W. I bought the 200xc to get the TC forks and swapped out the 5th and 6th and it's perfect, go for the W .
