First Truck?

Hey guys, next month I'm gonna be getting my license, and I have money saved up to buy a new truck. I'm going to be using the truck for towing (me and my bud are startin' a landscape business), hauling bikes, etc.

Lately I have been looking at 90's Ford diesels(I love them, my dad has a 97 f350 dually 7.3L), And I have come upon a few that I may look at.

Just by searchin' on craigslist, here are a few I'm interested in, but I'll ask for your guys opinions on these trucks:

Personally, I would stay away from the last truck, one reason is because it had a plow on it. I like the F350s just for the solid front axle, the F250s in that style had the TTB setup that is hard to keep in alignment, especially with a big, heavy diesel engine. One more thing to consider is the 7.3 powerstroke is a great engine, but the auto transmissions seem to need rebuilding at around 150000 miles or so.

I would look at the 1997 F250 with the stick shift, but thats just me, then the first two on your list.

The last one is a definite no. He said it was recently painted and yet if it was, the painter didn't take the time to remove the drop-in bed liner to grind/paint because you can see tons of rust coming out. Not to mention, as already said, stay away from plow trucks. I do like the "This truck has little rust" when in all actuality it looks like a rust bucket, even from the pictures.

The third one seems pretty nice, I would go and take a closer look at that one.

Thanks guys, and I completely forgot to look out at what each truck has for a front end

I checked out the 2nd truck again, and I noticed now that is has some rot above the fenders

I did however find a gasser that looks really nice

I think it'll either be this truck, or I can choose between the first diesel with a stick, or the second and third trucks, although the second one has some rot

Check with your DMV on that. Some states can't deny you income if it involves driving. They can issue you a special exception but it might have a limitation such as time, days, or miles from office. It was a long time ago but it happened for me.

I have to share more detail b/c it was cool.

I was 14 and living in Texas. I was a part time mechanic, after school, at the local Yamaha shop. I had to be able to test drive the bikes I repaired!! The State said if I could pass the written and driving test then they would grant me an exception. Well, I passed. The license stated that I could operate any size CC motorcyle within a 5 mile radius of the shop I worked. LOL The best part? That 5 mile radius included my home and high school!! Yes, those were the days. Truth be told, the day I assembled Yamaha's new 1100cc road bike, my palms were sweating as the owner said "can you handle testing that one." This was in the '75-'76 timeframe so things may have changed a bit!

Were there's a will there's a way!! Good luck on the truck and the new business!!!

Have your parents call about exceptions to a CDL.
