The '88 and '89 have the same mounting pattern and base but it is 5mm longer than the later ones.

So it looks like the pipe from an 88 wont fit a 90? Anybody need a pro circuit pipe? It's in very good shape. The bike it was on was a friends that burned up in a fire. The pipe survived so he gave it to me knowing I had this project looming. After looking into it, seems the 90-91 pipes are different.

Ya think it would hurt anything if I fired this thing up for just a few seconds without the radiators on? I could put a little antifreeze in the water pump housing just so it's not completely dry.

You could... Personally though I wouldn't. If you have any sort of tuning to do with the carburetor it won't be running nicely.

Ya, I just talked to the guy that I bought this from and he advised against. So, I wait. 

I did order a pipe, some reeds, and the intake boot this morning. I put some of the body on just for kicks. I dont dig the front fender all that much. Looks just like an i.t fender. The tank looks like doo-doo, but its all I got

That's definitely from an IT, I have a 1979 in boxes right now, haha.

I wouldn't say the tank looks that bad. I've seen far worse! I do love how the 89/90 YZWR looks, one of my favourite Yamahas of all time.

Edit: I just noticed...The red paint? On the bottom?

That is from my 1st i.t 200. Someone rattle canned it red. They musta been dreaming of a Honda, cuz it said "Ride Red" on it too. LOL

So I checked for spark. Nothing. Cleaned the paint off of the coil mount.And with the engine not bolted in tight, and with new powder coat, I used a jumper wire from to the cylinder mount bolt. Still nothing. I put the cdi from the 89 donor bike, bingo! I hope they're interchangeable.

If not, take the flywheel off & sand the magnets, they get rusty. Good chance that's the problem...

I got my pipe today. Got er fired up. Sounds awesome! Started right up after only a few kicks. Can't wait to ride it. 

Does this look like the right position for the kicker? When I put the pipe on, it looked like it lined up with what looked like a rub mark on the pipe. But I kicked it around and it stopped well short of the peg. I didn't think that was right. So I moved it to here. That seems mo betta.

So far no water, gas or oil leaks! ?

Cool man. The kicker looks like it should be clocked more foreward. But you say it works that way, so I'd leave it.?

I agree, but when it stops before it hits the peg, that's probably not good.

I've more than once had to take a kickers apart. To grind so it lays down lower. Is that something that might work, or is it too much distance ?

Ya, I'm not sure. The kicker doesn't have a divot in it from hitting the peg a thousand times. And you can see on the pipe a small dark spot that looks like a rub mark. When I put the pipe on, I lined the kicker up with that and gave it a kick. That's when I realized something wasn't right.

Any of you ever used one of these spacers? It came with the engine, and the paperwork explains how it improves low end power. My concern is that it pushes the carb almost against the spring. I haven't tried the airbox yet.

Never used one. I almost bought one when they were on sale at a distributor but decided against it because I've never seen one on a factory/race bike.
