ScramblerTom Posted March 28, 2010 So it's time for some open heart surgery on the old girl and I have never opened a case before. What special tools will I need to buy and what can I make? The case puller/crank pusher I saw on youtube looked expensive, as did the crank puller for putting it back in. I figure I could use my harmonic puller I use on the flywheel of my sled if I make a new plate to bolt to the case holes. I suppose I could come up with a way to make a crank puller. What does everyone else do? My shop quoted over $300 to open it and replace the main bearings and seals, so I'm going it alone. Any tips/tricks would be appreciated. r0bert220 Posted March 29, 2010 tips: use zip lock bags to keep parts together, keep the tranny together and wrap it in foil then put in zip lock bag, take pics for future reference, and TAKE YOUR TIME not a bad job, just double check everything.
