CRF250x headlight on a 150F

Recommended Posts

How does it mount? Most headlights mount via strapa to the forks. Does this one mount to the clamps?

This will give you an Idea of how it mounts. But it's how to put the R number plate on the X so it dosn't show much of the X headlight mounts. But you can see what holds it on from the lower triple clamp.

This is the service honda junior X. It's got the same headlight, and is mounted in 150R frame. So that should share the same forks with the CR85.

Upper mounts extend forward from the upper triple clamp near the pinch bolts. A bolt passes through the mount on the headlight and threads into the bracket on the triple. A simple bracket for each side can be made from a sheet of aluminum, drill 2 holes for the pinch bolts to hold the bracket and one hole for the bolt to mount the headlight. The stock lower triple on an X has two pins cast into it extending upward and the headlight has two holes in the bottom of it that slides onto the pins. You could drill two holes into the top of the bottom triple then insert two roll pins that the headlight could mount to. If you choose to use a Honda OEM headlight I think you should use one from an 08-09 model as they are slightly smaller in size than the 04-07 models and will be more in porportion to your smaller bike.

I get what your saying, I just don't know how to put it all together. I don't want the mods on my bike to be permenant as I may sell it later on or just put it back to stock. Can I put a mount on the lower triple without drilling? Like make a bracket out of aluminum like you said?

For the bottom mount you could use a piece of sheet aluminum to make a bracket that would attach between the bottom clamp and the fender. Remove the fender and drill holes in the bracket that match the holes in the fender. Put the bracket onto the bottom of the clamp then the fender and tighten the bolts. Now bend the bracket upward in front of the triple clamp until it is at the top of the bottom triple clamp. Now bend the bracket toward the rear of the bike so that it is in a u shape. Now you can drill two holes through the bracket to match up with the holes in the bottom of the headlight. Run a self tapping screw through each hole pointing upward and then set the headlight down over the screws. You will need to bend the bracket out in order to run the screws in then bend it back to the proper shape.
