California Grass Valley to Downieville Dual Sport Ride

Recommended Posts

Well I finally got the 525 out of the garage and out for a nice dual sport ride today. Me and ARider put in 165 miles, starting in Grass Valley, going to Downieville and back. We did a lot more pavement than we wanted to, but we kept getting turned back by snow on the forest roads and trails. Should be a lot better for dual sporting in a month or so, longer than that for a lot of the higher single track stuff though.

Here are some pics.

Early in the ride we crossed this historic bridge:

We tried this power line trail in a few places, never got too far:

Here's one of the many places we got turned back by snow:

ARider celebrates getting into some nice single track:

A couple of me on a nice trail:

One thing about this particular trail, it finishes with a bunch of really tight downhill switchbacks. Here's ARider taking a break before the 15 downhill switchback descent:

Another nice view:

ARider on one of the switchbacks, tight and steep:

Finally in Downieville for a late lunch:

More snow heading back, after this we ended up just bombing down the pavement back to Grass Valley:

A really good day, even with all the hardtop. Where there wasn't snow the dirt was great. The 525 is a blast, a bit of a beast in the really tight stuff after getting so used to the light and nimble YZ, but for dual sport rides that aren't supposed to be a steady diet of the tight trails its going to be a lot of fun.

I have a bad case of plate envy 👍

Looks like a great way to get used to the new scoot.
