Keihin FCR40 on Yamaha SR500: dies after 3 seconds

[This might be slightly off-topic, please move if needed]

A friend of mine put a Keihin FCR MX 40 on his Yamaha SR500. It won't run.

The symptoms:

- it runs for 3 seconds, then dies

- when he pulls the throttle, it dies immediately

- when the choke is pulled it won't even start

- AP works fine.

It has a 172 main jet, 45 pilot jet, 68 starter jet and 60 leak jet.

Based on these symptoms, does someone have a clue?

Thanks! 👍

has the slide been out of the carb?

Yes, it has been out: The carb has been cleaned and checked before mounting it on the bike. What are you thinking?

Any idea whether it could be rich, or lean?

make sure the slide plate is square end down.

Yes, it is 👍

So it fires right up, dies within 3 seconds. When you pull the throttle (within these 3 seconds), it dies immediately. When you pull the choke (within these 3 seconds), it dies immediately. It won't start with the choke on.

I'd think it is too rich (because it won't do anything with the choke on). Leaner pilot jet?
