Clutch Switch Question

Recommended Posts

I recently picked up a 2005 WR 250F and after doing an inspection I noticed that there was a wire disconnected on my clutch perch. I assume that this is the clutch switch but I can't find any information about it. What exactly does a clutch switch do, and do I need to attach it back to the clutch perch? The bike runs fine but I want to make sure I'm not harming anything by leaving it unplugged.

When the clutch switch is working like it was designed, it prevents starting in gear unless the clutch lever is squeezed. I usually get rid of them, one less thing to worry about. But you have to be in the habit of squeezing the clutch on startup. If you do not and are in gear, you can make a fool of yourself. I am in the habit of always holding the front brake, squeezing the clutch before e-start of kicking. Every bike, all the time.
