Renthal bars snapped in crash- is this normal?

My son crashed on a pretty big jump (he landed on me) and the bars snapped off just outside the center support on throttle side. The bar looked like a big knife sticking up from the track! Is this normal for these aluminum bars to shear off like this?

You'll see many people have had issues with the bars snapping right at the crossbar mount, myself included. Your sons crash had a ton of energy behind it and is lucky not to have been hurt. The fat bar style bars generally have less of a shearing chance

my brother managed to snap his fat bars within the first 5 minutes of putting them on.. he went down pretty hard

I snapped a pair of protaper bars and bent another set in a small corner fall. Renthal fat bars since and they don't bend reguardless of alllll my falls

I've never seen them snap but I've bent my Pro Tapers when I came up short on a step-up. A buddy's g/f bent her Renthals just going down in a corner.
