captainbeaky Posted March 30, 2010 Hi all, I have a 2005 model jap spec xr 250 Love it. USD forks and different plastics, in black, with leccy start. Done all the tips and tweaks except snorkel and air filter. All is good. Took out snorkel and changed filter for a foam one. Now it's horribly lean. The carb is different from STD, and doesn't look like it can be re jetted Any ideas?
Alex 400 My Rides (2) Posted March 30, 2010 need to know what kind of carb it is to help. it might be an edelbrock which looks like it can't be jetted because it can't because there are no jets. It uses the needle for all of the fuel metering duties.
captainbeaky Posted March 30, 2010 It's the standard carb that has been on the bike since new. Looking at the service manual, it's quite different to the normal Carb. It doesn't seem to have the same accel pump arrangement. It feels like it too. Snap open the throttle, and the power comes in half a second later. The bike had air injection too - but I took that off and blanked the holes up.
captainbeaky Posted March 30, 2010 Sorry - in original message, I should have said that the carb doesn't look like it can be jetted in the same way as a STD carb. It's just a very different carb to the normal Xr carb
captainbeaky Posted March 31, 2010 I've found out that it's a CV carb. A Keihin VE88. Anyone got any info/comments on this? Anyone played with one? I tried a foam air filter and removed the snorkel, and it's running very lean. I want to know more about the carb before I start tweaking. Possibly an exploded diagram, so I know what I'm undoing... Am I on a hiding to nothing with this carb? Would I be better off going for a standard XR250 carb - or something better? (Anyone put a Keihin FCR on the XR250? - I can see loads of CRF carbs on ebay...) Any help would be appreciated...
