djcr Posted March 30, 2010 does any one know what type of alloy was used for the 1998 cr125? sub frame has a crack needs welding but I was told to find what type of alloy it is.
1987CR250R Posted March 30, 2010 Weld with 4043 or 5356. Use 5356 if you plan to anodize it.
HrcRacing Posted March 31, 2010 It was stated on one of the 500 forums that the aluminum is specially made to Honda's specs and that's it's a 7,000 series alloy.
1987CR250R Posted March 31, 2010 7000's don't usually take well to welding and Honda frames and subframes are all welded.
HrcRacing Posted March 31, 2010 Might want to search the AF forum at cr500riders.com. Pretty sure that that's what was said.
1987CR250R Posted April 7, 2010 Whatever alloy, weld it with 4043 or 5356. I have actually repaired CR250 sub-frames with 5356.
KTM-548cc Posted April 11, 2010 7000's don't usually take well to welding and Honda frames and subframes are all welded. 7003/7005 welds excellent, thats what they make racing pedal bikes from, 6061 is also used alot for pedal bikes. however 7075 is not weldable in the normal fashion. i have never once seen 100% proof of what alloy honda uses. some people have speculated there might be 7xxx series, but never any concrete proof that ive seen. for $200 you can have almost every part of the chassis tested.
