Top End Rebuild on '07 YZ250F

Recommended Posts

I have about 50 hrs on my 250F and was planning on putting an '08 piston in it when i hit the 100hr mark. I want to do this myself, and was just wondering if anyone has done it before, have any tips? any sites that give good info? from what i have read it should be fairly easy. This is how i would go about doing it:

Clean bike

drain fluids.

Remove valve cover,

Set engine at TDC

Use paint pen to mark the tooth and link of chain on timing chain (to make sure that i dont screw up the timing)

Remove camshafts

Remove Cylinder head

Remove cylinder

Remove piston

install new piston

(then do everything in reverse)

Am i missing anything??? any tips on how to make sure the timing chain doesnt slip any teeth on the bottom sprocket???

You should replace the timing chain, so therefore familarize yourself with the timing before you start, having the cam lobes in the "10 oclock" and "2 oclock" position and then using the dots as per manual.
