rraypo Posted March 31, 2010 I have a 92' DR350s and want to dump the battery but still be able to use the headlight and tail light, (yes, I know about laws and needing a battery for road legality). Does the battery also function in a way to limt voltage to the lights? I tried just taking the battery out of the circuit and now I blow light bulbs when the engine is reved up. What else can I do besides using a battery? Thanks guys.
FloridaSteve Posted March 31, 2010 I know that on certain older 2-strokes if you want to lose the battery you have to use a small capacitor. Not sure on the DR.
jcalis Posted March 31, 2010 Yep, you can use a capacitor. Try to find one with a 25 volt rating (or higher) and at least 4,700 uf. This should keep the regulator working as it should, and keep the lights working, even at low rpm's. Keep in mind you will loose the lights as soon as the engine dies, so this mod may not be a good idea for some people. Loss of power / lights at night due to stalled engine can be dangerous.
