Shimming valves

Recommended Posts

Hey how is everyone, im new to thumper talk and this is my first post. I just bought an 07 kx450f and decided to check the valves, i discovered that the exhaust is just withing spec (0.17mm) and the intake is out (0.08). Specs in the manual say exhaust should be between 0.17mm and 0.22mm and intake is 0.10 and 0.15. Ive got the buckets and shims out, i want to know what size shims is should get? should i replace the exhaust shims or leave them? should i bring the intake right down to 0.15? thanks for all your help!

Your better off to have them set too loose than too tight, with in reason. With that being said you need to take your measurement and if you are too tight you need to subtract that number from where you want to set it. Then that product needs to be subtracted from the old shim and that product is the width of the new shim needed. For ex. measured lash equals A, Tolerance equals B, Old Shim size equals C, D equals new shim size.

A=.08mm B=.1mm to .15mm C=2.25mm D=2.2mm
