dougtrip Posted April 3, 2010 Here's the deal. I have a 2004 sportsman 400, it was running thru belts and ended up grooving the primary clutch. I replaced the primary clutch and belt and almost right away it started slipping and burning the belt. If I pull the belt The rear wheels and secondary clutch spin freely by hand so I don't think that they are holding anything down. Now I have double and triple checked that I have the correct belt however it seems to me to be far to loose(to large in diameter and or small in width). Anybody scene this before? Thanks for any help.
North_Star Posted April 3, 2010 Make sure the clutch alignments are in spec other wise the belt will rub and will eventually fail. You may have to get shims for adjustment. This is somewhat common in the Sportsmans but I've never seen it happen with any family or friends that have owned them.
