Putting A 6HP Briggs And Stratton In To A Old Kx80?

Recommended Posts

Anything can fit in anything with enough hacking, cutting, fabricating, and welding

Will it work easily? No.. Will it be fast/smart idea, probably not.

You wont have a transmission if you went that route.. Not to mention brigs motors aren't really built to run up and down the rpm range, they are made to run at peak rpm constantly.. Not that they don't work 'ok' for go-carts and such, but there are a lot better choices of motors for a dirt bike swap.

Like Towlieee says, anything can be done, but that doesn't mean it should be.

Case in point, 5 hp Tecumse snowblower engine, Katana lower end, Kawasaki threewheeler.

Pulleys and a belt to spin the Katana crankshaft, and presto, 6 speed snowblower powered trike!

I couldn't quickly find any USA based suppliers, but those chinese honda-type horizontal-cylinder engines are dirt cheap and pretty decent. And a lot better than briggs&stratton for a dirt bike 👍

This is what I mean:

e: oops, there aren't many honda-type engines there, but get the point

Nothing wrong with putting a briggsy on an old bike, basically its gonna be like an old mini bike with suspension.

I'm sure it could fit just lots of welding and cutting, and your gonna have to come up with a jack shaft set up.

The biggest problem will be gearing. your rear sprocket has to be close the diameter of the rim.

Been there, done that when I was a kind, I stuffed a 10hp sno blower engne on a old Benelli frame. It would go 60+ mph but had minimal acceleration. Was only good in a giant parking lot.

try looking for another kx , rm, yz, cr 80 motor on ebay or something or some old XR

at least the clutch and gears would be ready
