Best engine build for dirt?

Recommended Posts

Hi all,

the DRZ is approaching 20,000km, and i'm keeping an eye on motor wear.

I'll probably rebuild it before my next big trip, since i use it as a commuter as well.

I'd like to get to 50HP at the wheel. Is this possible with the stock E cams and FCR39 ? To keep costs down.

I already have the MRD SSW exhaust, but may consider going for a quieter exhaust later. a 50Hp build with a quiet exhaust would be preferable.

Thanks.

E-cams, FCR39, BigBore 94mm 440cc's, MRD/SSW (loud) will get you 48-ish HP.

As reliable as stock. Bolt om items.

Proven many many times.

48 is kind of a natural limit for the Z on 'mod level 1'.

The next level is above 48, but involved way more work and money.

48real HP at the wheel is quite a ****load of power already BTW.

I agree with jhondius. This is about as far as it goes until you get into a stroked engine. Add headwork, more aggressive cams and a larger carb and you approach the 60 h.p. mark.

And 48 h.p. is nothing to snub your nose at. That's 50% more than stock and roughly what the hot rod 450s make.

If im in there anyway and replace the valves, is there something better to use than OEM, longer lasting ones?

I've used the much hated Black Diamond valves and am very happy with them - Only used the valves and my original OEM springs and seats. Much cheaper and do the job very well!

Got mine off eBay!
