I bought a beast, need help identifying engine

So I picked this up last summer for my wife to learn on. I was told it was a 1990 KX 60 with an 200? xr100 engine. I'm starting to think its not an xr100 engine, though. Can anyone identify it? The number on the side of the engine: HE01E-5510440

It's a 1990 KX80 with a XR100 motor and a KX60 tank. Edit... Yep,it's a XR80 motor. The breather is a dead give away.

thats what I thought, but I pulled the stator to wind it for a headlight.

Look like a 80 engine from intake.

Does the points backing plate have 2 (80) or 3 (100) mounting bolts?

I can't seem to locate my book at the moment to cross reff your engine numbers🤣

2 bolts, but It doesn't look like the 80 stator in this writeup.

It's a points ignition. You can buy a CDI conversion kit on ebay. Well worth the money.

I agree a cdi ignition is much better than points, but I have to figure out what engine I have before I can get a conversion kit. Also, I thought all the newer xr engines already had CDI ignitions? Was it converted TO points?

Could be an Ex- Langtown bike. They were doing those around 1997 or so. --L*64

It's a DMC KX80 from a while back. The KX's had issues with the stock tank, so he used a KX60 tank on a few of them. Here's my old one with an aluminum tank.

It does have several bolts all over that have holes through them for race wiring. Other than then swingarm sticker, why would you say its a DMC? Anyone can buy a sticker....

Do you see the front motor mount, motor box, the support tube? That's Dave's work. Plus, I've seen him build a few of those at his shop.

He probably just made for some customer. Especially with a 80 motor, it was probably never raced.
